Misiak Jewelers to close after 16 years of service

Robert and Dianne Misiak have a hard time referring to their customers as anything other than friends."Most of the people that come through here are repeat customers, people we have grown to known through the years and people we'll sadly miss," said Dianne about their jewelry business in the Village of Hamburg, which will be permanently closing their doors at the end of the month. After 16 successful years at their Pine Street location, the husband and wife team decided to retire to spend more time with family."It was a difficult decision to come to," said Robert, who has been in the jewelry business for 45 years. "I kept asking myself, 'What time is the right time?'"

Robert's passion for designing and working with jewelry began in college, where he majored in art at Buffalo State."Jewelry design was an area that I excelled in, and I enjoyed it," he said. For years, Robert worked as a master goldsmith at various businesses, until the mid 1990s, when fellow jeweler Eugene Bihari Sr. and his wife, Elizabeth, told the Misiaks that they were planning to close their business and that they should take over their space in the Hamburg Village Square Plaza."It's history. Sixteen years of wonderful friendships made and serving the community as best as we can," Dianne said.

Running Misiak Jewelers has been truly a family affair. Not only did Robert and Dianne work together through the years, but their daughter, Jennifer, also came to work for the business."A lot of people used to ask, 'How could we work together?,'" Robert said. "Sometimes it wasn't easy, but we rely on each other for our strengths." Dianne said that her husband brings the creativity and expert knowledge of gemstones and diamonds to the table, while Dianne excels at customer service, paperwork and other "behind the scenes" tasks."We see different sides of each other," said Dianne about working together as a family. "We see our daughter as an adult woman who has very creative talents."We see each other as partners, I call him my buddy," she continued.

Deadline Approaching For AA Union Vote

Voting ends tonight on American Airlines' "last best offer" to its mechanics and the local union is urging its members to cast their ballots."We are at a critical juncture in the bankruptcy process and this vote is extremely important," says John Hewitt, chairman of maintenance for Transport Workers Union Local 514. "The decision of our members will have a direct impact on the American Airlines workforce as well as Tulsa area communities. Our members will have to do a lot of soul searching before casting this difficult ballot. Every ballot cast represents what is best not only for that individual, but for their families as well."

The comments were made during a meeting of the Transport Workers Union last week, before the vote began.Union officials say a no vote gives the bankruptcy court the authority to terminate the current labor contract, at which point American would impose new terms, which officials say includes scrapping very important parts of the contract, such as retiree medical, vacation and a significant pay cut for several mechanics. Also, American's maintenance base in Fort Worth would be closed and 26-hundred mechanics in Tulsa would lose their jobs.

The union says voting yes to the "last best offer" would result in members taking concessions regarding retiree medical, vacation and pay cuts, but would save some of the 757 work in Tulsa and would lessen job reductions by about 50-percent."This is a difficult situation for all of American Airlines employees and their families, but at least this vote gives them the opportunity to determine the future of their careers," Hewitt said.American Airlines' parent company, AMR, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late November and said it was seeking to cut 13-thousand jobs worldwide.

Jennifer Love Hewitt admits to getting vajazzled for special occasions

JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT doesn't just get dressed up for special occasions — she gets vajazzled. At Wednesday's A&E Networks 2012 Upfront event, "The Client List" star told us that beneath her cleavage-bearing Alexander McQueen dress she was vajazzled because "it's a special occasion." Hewitt created a stir several years ago when she told then-TBS talk-show host George Lopez she was a fan of vajazzling. For the uninitiated, that's when women apply glitter and jewels to their nether regions for esthetic purposes. When we asked the 33-year-old hottie if she was emblazoned with clear crystals — said to balance energy disturbances when placed on the body — she enthusiastically confirmed that "I'm full of good energy."

Hewitt wasn't the only star at the Lincoln Center event. Our favorite trouble doll, Linsday Lohan, made an unannounced appearance and was part of a starry crowd that enjoyed a performance from the awe-inspiring Florence and the Machine.ADAM LEVINE and Cee Lo Green were sore losers Wednesday. A source tells us "The Voice" coaches bailed on a performance with contest winner Jermaine Paul at the season finale after-party at the Avalon in Hollywood, after their protégés finished third and second, respectively. Our source says Green showed up to the Ty Ku Citrus Liqueur-sponsored fete, but left "with no explanation or warning" before performing with fellow judges Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Paul.

Levine, in a feud with Xtina, didn't show at all. Anne Hathaway, Jim Belushi and Shelton's wife, Miranda Lambert, did.RACHEL DRATCH is our answer to Gwyneth Paltrow, so it's fitting the comic genius read from "The Avengers" actress' cookbook "My Father's Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family and Togetherness" at the Mother's Day-themed "Celebrity Autobiography" performance Monday night. One audience member tells us Dratch gave new meaning to Paltrow's Tuna and Ginger Burgers when she read the recipe aloud at the Triad Theatre. Sherri Shepherd, Jackie Hoffman and Mario Cantone also read.
